Suggestions for safe yoga practice

It is worth mentioning a few things that will enhance your experience of yoga and help prevent any ill effects:-

  • Although you will be given general safety advice you must take responsibility for your own safety by listening to your body, respecting it and working within your limits
  • Please tell me if you are feeling unwell or different to usual, so I can suggest ways to adapt the yoga for your needs
  • It is not advisable to practice yoga within 3 hours of eating a main meal - if you are really hungry beforehand have a small snack (e.g. a banana)
  • Wear light loose comfortable clothing
  • Please bring a non-slip yoga mat - I usually have a supply of mats for sale, if required, for a reasonable price
  • A small blanket is useful for relaxation when the body cools down rapidly

Also for pregnancy yoga:-

  • It is advisable to start the yoga classes at about 14-16 weeks of your pregnancy, or thereafter. The nausea and tiredness that happens in the first trimester is your body’s way of telling you to rest as much as possible
  • Most women continue coming until the very end of their pregnancy. The postures can be adapted to suit all stages
  • Please bring 2 cushions/pillows to enhance your comfort while relaxing
